“Confidence”

9″ x 12″ archival print. Also available as a 5″ x 7″ folded greeting card. Original drawing: Colored pencil with acrylic drybrush on colored paper. 

The reference for this piece was a Snow Leopard at the Santa Barbara Zoo. When I saw the photo I immediately envisioned creating a drawing on dark gray paper. I could see the white/light colors of the leopard’s fur showing up beautifully against the contrast of the gray. Plus, I felt the tone of the paper added a dramatic feel to the piece. Cats, whether they are domestic or wild, always seem to project an air of self-assurance.  This one, in particular seemed to exude confidence, hence the title of this work.
